Common coaching questions

What is coaching?

Sometimes it is easier to explain by saying what it is not.... Coaching is not hiring somebody who will advise you on what to do. Coaching is not having somebody else doing the hard work. I follow the International Coaching Federation (ICF) "Coaching is a partnership between coach and coachee in a thought provoking and creative process that inspires coachee to maximise personal and professional potential".

What are the benefits of coaching?

Coaching can accelerate personal and professional growth and development and it:

  • Amplifies effectiveness of learning programmes

  • Improves work performance

  • Drives loyalty, morale and job satisfaction

  • Can lead to greater self-confidence, enhanced relationships, more effective communication skills, better work-and-life balance

  • Has a proven significant ROI

  • Nearly 70% of individuals report that they had at least made back their initial investment

  • 86% of companies reported that they at least made their investment back and almost 1/5th saw a ROI of 50% on their investment

  • 99% of individuals polled said they were "somewhat" to "very satisfied"  with the overall coaching experience

How do I know if you are the right coach for me?

Great question! The match between a coach and a coachee is crucial for success. If this website resonates with you and you feel ready to take your growth to the next level please feel free to reach out to me so we can book a short ‘chemistry call’ and we can decide after that if it would work for the both of us. No strings attached.

Barbara, are you a trained coach?

Another great question! The title Coach is not protected which means that anybody can use it. Although there are many people who are trained by life and they can be great sources of wisdom for you, I consider Coaching to be a profession and value solid training very much.

I am trained and certified by the Co-Active Institute (CPCC) which is considered the Gold Standard in the coaching industry and I am a certified NeuroTransformational Coach (CNTC) which means that, among other elements, my Coaching approach is rooted in Neuroscience.

I am also a member of the International Coaching Federation (ICF) and accredited as PCC which means I have been trained as a professional for more than 125 hours by a certified institute (Co-Active Training Institute), have over 500 hours of coaching experience and adhere to the international coaching standards and ethical code.

Besides that I of course have my professional education (Master in organisation and management, University of Leiden) and many years in the professional leadership training business (London Business School, Oxford, Yale, University of Leuven).

What languages do you speak?

I coach in English and Dutch. I also speak German and Spanish so if you feel like expressing you in those languages I can fully understand you.
